How to Take Charge of Yourself

by Vanessa Leave a Comment

Have you ever woken up feeling yucky – fuzzy-headed perhaps, low energy and no motivation? Want to just pull the duvet over your head and go back to sleep – and perhaps you even do that?

Or maybe later on in the day, you experience a slump? Yes of course, we all have. Since your mind and body are inextricably linked – i.e. one impacts on the other and vice versa, if you don’t feel great physically, you will probably not feel wonderful emotionally either.

If you’ve experienced this frequently in your life, you will have created a habit. What is your habit? Do you just stay stuck in that state until it passes? Or it could be that something external calls for your attention and prompts you to take action? Or possibly someone gives you a kick up the btm?

That’s all fine and dandy; except how much time have you wasted which then impacts on the rest of your day? This probably also causes other bad behaviours such as eating sugary foods, drinking caffeine or, fill in the blank ___________, which do nothing to help you in the long run. It’s also likely that you then beat yourself up! Can you recognise any of these?

Fear not – there is another more resourceful way. Imagine being able to overcome this right away? No more time-wasting, feeling apathetic or sorry for yourself. Here’s 5 simple steps which you can take immediately.

Step 1. If you’re in bed – get up! If it’s during the day, stand up.

Step 2. Do some deep conscious breathing. This will help increase oxygen to the brain and bring a sense of calm.

Step 3. Do some simple stretching exercises to get the body moving. This will immediately start to shift your energy. Enjoy yourself doing it. Think of a cat when it gets up after sleeping, it spends quite a lot of time stretching before it gets moving again.

Step 4. Drink a glass of water to rehydrate yourself. Enough said.

Step 5. Go to the mirror, smile at yourself and say: I am unique, beautiful (this relates to you as a person, rather than physical beauty so applies equally to men as well as women) talented and lovable. Repeat this until you feel good.

This is your mission should you choose to accept. Just make the decision and do it. Take charge of yourself and your life. If you don’t take charge of yourself, you will not be able to charge what you’re worth either!
