Does Rolls Royce sell its cars at Robin Reliant prices? Of course it doesn’t. It wouldn’t be that crazy. If prospects say, I can’t afford it, does it say, don’t worry, I’ll discount it for you. Again, of course it doesn’t. It knows its value and it knows its customers.
On the other hand, it never ceases to amaze me how low some service-based businesses set their prices, compared with others at the same level, when I know full well that they deliver gold.
Under-charging particularly affects those who run their own small service-based businesses, of which there are many in the world.
If you get a feeling that you are under-charging, do you know why you are you doing it?
The chances are it’s one or more of the following reasons:
a) you don’t understand your value – you don’t know you’re gold!
b) you’re embarrassed talking about money
c) you’re scared of losing the sale
d) you’re working with the wrong clients
In essence, it is probably a combination of those.
